Copenhagen City Hall Square - Square

Info: Copenhagen City Hall Square

Copenhagen City Hall Square is a public square in the centre of Copenhagen. Its large size, central location, and affiliation with the city hall makes it a popular venue for a variety of events, celebrations and demonstrations. In the 1880s, plans were conceived to build a new city hall on the grounds, and in 1888, the expo area was cleared. An architecture competition was held in early 1889. On 28 July 1894, the foundation stone was laid. When it was inaugurated in 1905, the square in front of it became one of the most central and important spaces of the city. In the center of the square the Dragon Fountain is placed. The Fountain is designed by Joakim Skovgaard in collaboration with Thorvald Bindesbøll. The Fountain have been placed in different places in Copenhagen over the last 120 years, and found is way back to Copenhagen City Hall Square in the year 2023.
